God still speaks, but are you listening, for a word from God? - Sweet Words of Life

God still speaks, but are you listening, for a word from God?

Some Christians run to pastors and evangelists to get a word from God. But that doesn’t have to be the case. Every individual can clearly hear the voice of God directly through his Holy Spirit. You don’t need any special powers or any one person to bring a word from God, but instead, you need to establish a relationship with Jesus that will enable you to hear him speak into your spirit.

As you become closer to God, you can have constant conversations with Him, in which you listen to him as well as hear what he has to say. Through these conversations, God will reveal himself and gradually transform you into the person he wants you to be. Just wait for a word from God.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”

Psalms 37:23 KJV

Noah lived a righteous life and walked blameless before God. He lived a life that was high above the standards of the people of his time.

“Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”

Genesis 6:9 KJV

When the people turned from God and decided to follow evil and unrighteousness, Noah stilled remained faithful to God and refused to join the crowd. How did he manage to do this? Holding his sanity together in a crazy world. Well, he only had the support of his wife and sons, but it is obvious that he relied on the truth that came directly from his God. A word from God can change your whole life.

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.”

Genesis 6:11 KJV

God instructed Noah to build an ark for shelter from the flood that would come upon the earth. When Noah was building the ark, the people laughed at him. They refused to heed his advice and repent from their evil ways. But their laughter turned to fear when the sky became dark and the thunder and lightning came. Then the storm came and waters covered the earth. Only Noah and his family and animals in the ark were saved.

But Noah trusted in God and did not bend to the pressure of unbelief and mockery that was flung at him from all directions. He believed in the God that he served. He acknowledged that the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen.” We should all have this kind of confidence in our God.

Noah listened to the voice of God and believed that he would do what he said he would do. It took great patience, dedication, and unwavering faith to live holy and not yield to the temptation that was all around him.

We too should take God at his words and trust in his promises. Maybe you are going through great trials, tribulations, or tragedies. You might be wondering where is Jesus, is he with me, and if he is, does he care? Rest assured that he is right there in your storms and you will get through this. God is with you and he will sustain you through it all.

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

Mark 4:39 KJV

Throughout the ages, prophets, and others have heard the voice of God and relayed his message with boldness. Do you believe God still speaks today? Of course, he does. He might be speaking to you right now but you are too busy worrying about the cares of this world to hear his still small voice. We all need to declutter and refocus our attention on Jesus and the Holy Ghost. We need to seek God for his direction and guidance in every aspect of our lives.

Amidst all this chaos and confusion, is a desire to hear from God. But God does not speak in confusion. We need to let go of confusion and intentionally set aside time to listen to the voice of God. Yes, we need to pray, but we also need to spend time listening for the answers to our prayers. We speak, God listens, God speaks we listen. Many times, God gives the answers, but we missed them because we did not hear his voice.

“God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.”

Psalms 62:11 KJV

We should ask God to open our spirits, so we can hear his voice. We should ask God to help us to blot out all the other voices that are speaking to us daily. The only voice we really want to hear and obey is the voice of the Holy Spirit. We pray, then we listen and stop, then wait in silence for God to speak.

This is important because we want to make wise decisions and not obey or follow the voices that are leading the world astray. We are bombarded, with news, messages, and voices telling us many things. In the middle of all this chaos, all we need is a word from God; the one who knows all things.

Remember that the Lord is your shepherd and he will lead you in green pastures and beside still waters. We are God’s disciples and we should know his voice, and follow him wherever he leads us. We should not follow the voices of strangers, it doesn’t matter if the majority seem to agree. Seek the Lord for his word on the matter.

“I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.”

Psalms 85:8 KJV

If you need God’s help, just tell him, what you need. Then bind Satan’s and his cohorts, so they will not bring confusion and fear as you wait on God. We also need to submit our thoughts and will to the power of the Holy Spirit.

Have faith in God, know that he is interested in you and wants only the best for you. If you believe that to be true, then he will give you the desires of your heart.

Be certain of the matter on which you need a word from God

God knows everything, so no use in having an ulterior motive. You might know the answer that you are expecting God to give. But what if he doesn’t give you the same answer? Ask him to open your wisdom and understanding to accept and obey the truth that will come from him. Sometimes we feel that we should tell God the answer we want from him. He is not our puppet and will only give us his best.

Spend time in prayer and fasting to get a word from God

Be humble, in asking, don’t be proud and demanding. God owes us nothing, yet he chooses to freely give us all things. God loves us and wants to give us all things but we should see it all as a privilege and honor to be chosen by him. When we spend time with him in prayer and fasting we get closer to him. Our ears are opened so we can hear his voice more clearly and be able to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit, from the other voices that are speaking to us. We pray and ask the Holy Spirit to empty us of all fleshly desires and fill us with the fruits of the spirit.

Do not try to force the hands of God

God will answer in His own timing. He doesn’t need help from man, he can do it all. Wait patiently for him, but do not try to rush ahead of him. Sometimes we rush into things and expect God to get us out of the mess that we so intentionally get ourselves into. We ignore the warning signs “Heading for Destruction” and just continue on our merry way. Then once we are in the deep pit we cry out to God for help. God expects us to wait on Him and trust that he will come through for us. This way we can save ourselves a lot of heartache and pain. God will always be on time. Wait on him.

Prayer to hear the voice of God

Father, I come to you in Jesus’ name. Lord, please let my ears be open so I can hear your voice as you speak to me. Lord let my heart, mind, soul, and spirit be receptive to the knowledge of your glory. Father let my thoughts be subjected to the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord let me wait patiently as you speak to me and impart your knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Lord, please drown out the sound of all the negative voices speaking in my ear. Father let me only obey your voice and your voice alone. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
