Living a godly life should be the goal of every Christian. Our ways, words, and actions should please God. The Bible is the guide to what the Father requires and shows us how to achieve a state of godliness.
It might seem hard, but it is possible with the help of the Holy Spirit to live a holy life. There is so much darkness in the world due to sin and immorality. And it is easy to get drawn away into the cares of the world. But the Bible reminds us that we are in this world but not of this world. (See John 17:14-16). Jesus has overcome the world and so have we. Here are some ways to live a godly life:
Have a heavenly mentality
Many individuals think that there is life after death and that they will enter paradise. Few people truly believe that they are headed to hell when they remark, “I am certain that I am going to hell.” Both hell and heaven exist. No matter who believes or doesn’t believe. Store up your treasures in heaven, where thieves cannot break in and steal them.
Although it may be simpler for people to believe in heaven, which is a place of marvels and streets lined with gold, than in hell, which is a place of blazing fire and eternal damnation, both are real. John provided us with a preview of the magnificent future that Christians may look forward to.
As Christians our home is in heaven, we are just passing through this sinful world. Jesus is our example and we must be true disciples in all of our ways. Paul said in Romans 12:2 KJV “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
We know this life is temporary, so with God’s grace, we can endure, until we get to life eternal. Whatever trials and tribulations we face are nothing in comparison to the glory that will be revealed in us. (See Romans 8:18 KJV).
As Christians, we know that heaven is waiting for us, and we may look forward to an eternal relationship with Jesus Christ. And, like our father, we should not desire for anybody to die, but rather for everyone to repent and receive eternal life. Live a Godly life and make heaven your home.
Yield not to temptation and live a Godly life
Anything that is pulling your mind, heart, and focus away from God is ungodly and unrighteous. Do your best to stay away from such temptations.
It is true that we all encounter temptation. Temptation takes many various forms, shapes, and sizes. Temptation is not only a modern problem; it is a biblical reality. The essential and often challenging task is to resist temptation. The devil tempted Jesus, the only Son of the Living God. Will he not also tempt you?
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,” “Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,”“Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 19-21 KJV
Only until you have experienced the redeeming grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will your life truly find meaning and purpose. There is no need to follow the heart since it is deceptive and evil, and there is a good chance that doing so would turn you away from Christ. Man’s heart is evil by nature. Ask God for divine grace to live a Godly life and strength to deal with temptation.
Pray and live a Godly life
One way to communicate with God is through prayer. Prayer is an interaction with God rather than only making requests. One might pray in a formal or casual way. We should not only pray when we go to Church. Prayer can be an essential part of our daily routine. We don’t have to pray at any one specific location. Praying daily will help to build a solid spiritual relationship with God.
We should be a generation that prays and seeks God’s face daily. He will hear us, respond, and grant our heart’s desires. Seek his face in prayer today.
“Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV. Prayer is one of the ways that we spend time with God. Pray about everything, and tell God about the battles you are facing. Ask him for his divine grace and mercy to help you overcome the temptations of the devil.
There are moments when we feel trapped, with no way out and our backs against the wall. This dilemma may arise from our own irresponsible behavior or from attempts by others to force us to do something against our will. In every situation, we need the Holy Spirit’s supernatural assistance to escape. When we are at our weakest and lowest, that is when the devil constantly attempts to attack. He waits, lurks, and senses when we are vulnerable. Then, with crisis after crisis, he strikes hard. Prayer is our weapon to defeat the enemy every time.
Fast
When we fast we crucify the flesh and seek God for more power for our spirit man. Fasting teaches discipline, perseverance, and commitment towards the things of God. We fast to break strongholds and overcome stubborn persistent problems.
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?” Isaiah 58:6 KJV
There are several spiritual advantages to fasting. Moses and Jesus both fasted for forty days. By fasting, we turn away from the physical body and towards God for our spiritual strength. Food is an essential requirement for life. We fast and give up food to be in God’s presence and show that he is more important to us than our needs. This way our desire for God and more of his spirit grows.
The purpose of fasting is to draw us nearer to God. It is an act of selflessness, giving up something to seek God’s face. The aim is to get closer to God. God desires for us to be in his presence and witness his glory.
Fasting can help to break evil bad habits and bad attitudes. We can fast and ask God for the fruit of the spirit to be manifested in our lives.
We can uncover the hidden realities and break through the darkness in our lives by fasting. Pray for the divine ability to discern the truth from falsehoods. You become more spiritually aware and closer to God while you fast. When you fast, you might also get guidance and instructions from above.
You may not always notice the benefits of fasting right away, but eventually, you will. Abstinence and resistance are required during a fast. This will promote perseverance and self-control. Giving up something you love is common during a fast, and it will help you learn to control your cravings.
Read the Bible
Reading the Bible is advised, but is it truly beneficial? The Holy Spirit is there to guide us, enlighten us, and stir our emotions when we read the Bible. Your life and the decisions you make are influenced by the books you read and the things you think about.
We should not only open our bible when we go to Church. The Bible is our rule book, and guide in this dark world. Read the word, it is your weapon to fight and conquer the devil and his cohorts. In the Bible, we can find solutions for the problems that we face daily. The Bible is always relevant. It is still the “Go to” book.
The Bible has answers to many issues you encounter on a daily basis. As you read, reflect, and wait for revelation from the Holy Spirit, the scriptures will come to life. Your eyes will be opened to the things of God by the Holy Spirit, who will also provide you with new life lessons and guidance.
When difficulties arise, open your Bible and read what God has to say. As David did, encourage yourself in the Lord. Look for scriptures that inspire you and address the issues you are facing, then read and reflect on them. Your mind, spirit, and soul will all be at rest.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path,” Psalms 119:105 KJV.
Knowing God’s word gives us peace in recognizing that our heavenly Father is always with us. The Bible reveals God’s character, and as his children, we are urged to aspire to become more like him. We should ask God to reveal His truth and explain the text by His Holy Spirit while we meditate on it.
Fellowship with other believers
Everyone has their own struggles, but we are encouraged to share each other’s burdens.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 KJV
Live like Jesus, but first, we must understand who Jesus is. He will grant us the grace to live a life that glorifies God once we get to know him. This does not imply that we will triumph every time. We might falter and become victims of sin and the devil’s schemes. However, we are aware that if we turn to God in repentance, His love is sufficient, and that He will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Problems will come, as long as you have life, you will have trials, but they will not kill you. You will overcome them. In John 16:33, Jesus reminded us that we are overcomers.
It is our duty as Christians to deepen our faith. Our lives and the world around us will change as a result of our faith in God. Being the lone ranger on this Christian path is not a smart idea. Who will pick you up if you fall if you’re alone? It is essential for each of us to surround ourselves with like-minded individuals who will support and uplift us as we navigate the challenging paths of life. If you don’t already have any close Christian friends, find a church and go make some. Establish strong bonds with those who will encourage you to reach your full potential and develop your beliefs.
There is strength in numbers, more power is available when you have other believers in your corner. In Deuteronomy 32:30, we see that one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight. Fellowship with other believers and grow together in unity.
Prayer for the Lord’s help to live a godly life
Heavenly Father I come to you in Jesus’ name. Father, I want to be more like you. Please grant me a loving, kind, and compassionate heart. Please, Lord, set me apart for Your glory. Search my heart to determine if there is anything that will keep me from becoming close to you. Cleanse me, Father, from all iniquity and make me pure. Father, please wash me in Jesus’ blood, purify my thoughts, and instill in me the correct attitude and motivation. Father, may your grace and kindness constantly surround me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
